GENERAL RESEARCH NOTES
A search of the IGI on May 25, 2003 for ANY William Dring christened between 1779-1799 in England yielded 24 entries. Only four were christened in Lincolnshire:
Parents
1) William Dring bp April 6, 1779 Boston: Thomas and Sarah
2) William Dring bp Feb 4, 1781 Threekingham: James and Catherine
3) William Dring bp Nov 7, 1783 Long Bennington: William and Sarah
4) William Dring bp Jun 27, 1796 South Witham: John and Ann
Of those on the IGI, only (4) seems a likely candidate as entries (1)-(3) appear to have been baptised much earlier than the birth year suggested by several census records, the age at burial and that quoted in the Saltfleetby Book. However if 1789 was the birth year, William (entry 4) would have been about seven when baptised?
It is also noted that the first child of William Dring and Mary Ann Paddison, Ann, was also baptised at South Witham.

Notes
1819 August 15 Keith Ogley reports on an e-mail of March 21, 2002 that there is a christening entry at South Witham on page 12, entry 94. This shows Ann as the daughter of William Dring and Mary Dring (nee Paddison). However it is not clear why South Witham was the location which differs from the other children. Also Ann's mother Mary, was married in Alvingham and christened in South Somercotes so no connection there. Keith also reports, however, that Linda Crust, author of 'Billy Paddison of Soloby', has unpublished extracts from diaries and Journals which includes a note: 'Ann, the eldest daughter married a man named Thompson. They made poorly out and she died many years ago'.
1842 May 16 The marriage of this date is clearly recorded in Saltfleetby St Peter and Ann's father given as William Dring. Also it is noted that a 'Henry Dring' was a witness at this ceremony which appears to be Ann's brother.
GENERAL NOTE
There remains a slight element of doubt as to whether this Ann Dring was definitely the daughter of the William and Mary we are researching or whether someone with the same name and parents names was christened at South Witham.

Notes
1817-1819 Possible birth in July of 1819. See burial note below as to how this was assessed and also IGI search which follows.
IGI search (26 Oct 2000) showed four candidates with Christenings 1814-1819. For 1819 one was christened in Boston with parents John and Maria. The second, and likely candidate, was christened in Manby on 13 July 1819 with parents William and Mary. However Keith Ogley reports in an e-mail of March 21, 2002 that he had the christening on July 13, 1817 according to Manby church registers, entry 73 page 10. 1847
According to information supplied by Christopher from a family bible he holds, Henry Dring and Mary
Gutterson were married on 22 March 1847. (See my note of 17 July 2000 following Peggy's telephone call).
Subsequently a copy of this Family Bible page was received from Christopher on 24 April 2001.
On review of Saltfleetby St.Peter fiche (no 19) records on 14 April 2001, the marriage details were found on
page 8 entry 16.
The marriage date is confirmed. Henry a batchelor was an agricultural machinist and his father was William Dring a cottager.
Mary Gutterson (spinster) shows father's name as Robert Gutterson (farmer, but indistinct).
F.Lowe, curate, conducted the service. William King and Emma? Dring were witnesses.
1872 Listed in White's Directory as a farmer under residents of Saltfleetby St.Peter
1887 Mentioned in Church Register of marriages at Saltfleetby St.Peter's (seen by Anne 27 Oct, 2000) as father of Robert Dring in respect of the latter's marriage to Elizabeth Broomfield on May 12, 1887.1899 May 5 According to gravestone seen Oct 28, 2000 at 'The Stump', it states Henry died 5 May 1899 aged 79. His widow, Mary, is also mentioned on the same gravestone. Died 28 July 1902 at the age of 81.
1899 May 7 Listed in Burials Register at Saltfleetby St.Peters (seen 27 Oct, 2000) as entry 360. Service by Rev.Watson. States he was buried 7 May 1899 at the age of 79yrs 9m. This seems to give an inferred birth of July-August of 1819.
