Descendants of John DRING of Warboys, Huntingdonshire, England

Notes

1. John DRING

The eariest baptism we have for a child of John DRING is August 1693which is sixteen months after he married Joanne HILLS. However, thisfirst child, and four later ones are all shown with the mother as Mary. The following eight children have Joane shown as their mother.

Jim BECK and John ROWELL have both suggested that all the children hadthe one mother, Joane, and that would seem to be the case, given the dateof the John/Joane marriage.

However, why was Mary shown as the mother for the earlier children?Angela EDMONDS has found a John DRING/Mary SMITH marriage in 1682 in AllSaints, Huntingdonshire. There are, however, no children baptised in thatchurch for these parents. It could be that John was married to thisMary, they went to Warboys where they lived for up to ten years, andbecause the Warboys clerk was used to "John and Mary" he put theincorrect name in the baptism register for the children of "John andJoane".

For the time being John is shown as marrying three time, but it isobvious that more research is required.

6. William DRING

Information from Jim BECK 14/4/1984
"The parish register is confusing regarding the children of John and JoanDRING. The first five are born as children of John and Mary, the lastnine are listed as children of John and Joane. But apparently the motheris all the same person; Joane HILLS.
