26 Feb 03 Found for sale on E Bay Description Brand: Rolex Style: Dress Gender/Size: Men Age: Pre-1920 Features: -- Here is one for the serious collectors. a very early Rolex knurled edge screw-back mans' wristwatch, in 9K PINK GOLD, dating from around 1915. The 15 Jewel signed Rolex Rebberg movement, with an engraved balance-cock, is Rhodium plated. The signed case is marked 'W & D', which I believe refers to Wilsdorf & Davis, the original proprietors of Rolex. The beautiful signed 3-piece Rolex case bears the number 622655, and is unusually fine condition. The ORIGINAL black enamel (porcelain) dial has a sunken sub-seconds register at 6 o'clock, full Arabic numerals, gold skeleton style hands (reluminised), and a GLASS crystal (not sure if original). The dial displays a little tracking damage around the 3 o'clock area, but this is not easily visible when the knurled edge glass bezel is screwed down. The winding crown is unsigned, and not thought to be original Rolex. This Rolex comes with some details of its' Provenance. It was purchased as new in 1915, and presented to Captain M W Dring by the Officers of the British regiment, 341 Company Abingdon (part of the 1st Indian Division). The case-back is engraved with the details, and the watch comes with additional paperwork, giving the career history of Captain Dring, with a 1918 extract from the London Gazette, indicating his being awarded the Military cross, and another 1914 Military log extract. The movement is running well and the balance is sound, & the watch keeps most acceptable time for a timepiece of this age. It has recently had the benefit of a professional polish. The case is in fine condition, with no splits, dings or dents. The watch is on fixed lugs, and a new open-ended Black reptile-leather strap has been fitted, with a Gilt buckle. 6 July 02 Dring Family History (from Warboys)
I am finally starting a project I have longed to do. I am compiling a book on the ...from Warboys, England to today. But YOU are the composers. The book will contain copies of pictures, poems, written stories, illustrations, wills, plat maps, probate records, marriage, birth, and death certificates, geographical history, and local folklore. But it is you who need to provide these items to me. I'd like to have stories written by you about any John Dring from Warboys descendants. How your parents met, the genealogy buff in your family, visits to cemeteries and family landmarks. And don't forget yourselves. WE are future ancestors and the book should include information about us. I'd like history of the times our ancestors lived in. Send me 20 different stories or only 1. I estimate this project will take from two to five years to complete. But a lot of my research will be conducted after I get your photos and histories. Please try to show the source of your information (i.e., LDS Library; St. Mary's Cemetery, Over, England; Uniondale Baptist Church, Clay Center, Kansas; etc.) Be sure your photos have names and approximate dates taken. Anything you can send e-mail, that's the preferable way. Including photos. However, you can also mail me anything you want. And don't hesitate to pass my address along to others who may send me something. And be sure to identify yourself as the sender. I want to be able to not only ask questions if need be, but also to give credit where credit is due. (In other words, I need someone else to blame!) :-) Here's my mailing address: Madonna Taylor PMB 1959 4951 Netarts Highway West Tillamook, Oregon 97141-9467 And thank you in advance for all your input. This book will be as good as YOU make it.Madonna Taylor bizmaker@earthlink.net

03 Apr 01 Steve Morse ancestral tree (Drings of Leics, Derbys, Notts and Lincs back to 1580) added including a tribute to his great grandfather Thomas Dring of Muston, Leics. 1857-1942 (an interesting tale)
8 Dec 00 . I am not related to the Drings but very distantly related to Ann Forbes who married William Dring on Norfolk Island. I have now read the information about this couple on your site and can add no more except to say that Colleen McCullochs new novel, sorry I have lent my copy and can't recall title, contains references to William Dring. she seems to be quite accurate and seeing as this novel is an ongoing project maybe we will hear more of him in a sequel. The novel starts in Bristol and moves to Newgate Prison and the hulks before transportation to Australia. It is most interesting as it gives a feeling of what conditions were during these periods.
