Silhouette portrait of Elizabeth Dring
It is a silhouette portrait of Elizabeth Dring the first wife of William Flint. She was born in Ellington in 1803 and was buried there in 1824. She was said to have died in childbirth. Elizabeth was the daughter of Oliver Dring, farmer, and his first wife Mary Travell. The silhouette is a graphic artist's copy of a greatly treasured family heirloom held by a different branch of the family.
Three copies were commissioned by John Flint around 1975 and are now in the possession of Elizabeth's direct descendants in the UK and Australia.
For the record, William Flint's second wife, Mary Seaton, is the forebear of all the Australian Flints with the obvious exception of my family.
