History of Hastings AC, before HAC

I am an early athlete from Hastings having been a founder member of the old Hastings Olympiads AC. Founded in 1960, I was club sec. for a couple of years , and we used to hold our meetings at the grass track at South Saxons. You have the Hastings NewZeland Namesake trophy meeting. This trophy was given to us for competition by a club that had won it in the days of there being an Athletics club in Hastings, I believe it was before the war. We had a very successful club despite all being young, in fact we had to have my Mother and Father on the committee to have sufficient "Adults" for the council to let us use the ground. Winter training was done in the sea front using the beach and sprint training along "Bottle Alley" We used to go to some of the Winter Outdoor meetings in London, Ladywell Park in Lewisham I remember, and we took part in the first Indoor meetings in the UK in the aircraft hanger at RAF ...... > I forget, but the pole vault was between the roof girders, and into foam rubber chips. long jump was into 6 inches of sand. and High jump was into about 12 inches of sand on the concrete floor. The gap under the doors would have let a dog run in, and heating was a couple of hot air blowers. do let me know if I can be of help with the club history, might find some items if I look hard. Good luck to you all . > > >
