Sussex Road Relays 2002

Hastings AC had their best ever Sussex Road Relay Championships when they came away with 2 gold medals and 1 silver medal in the 2002 event held at Christ's Hospital Horsham on Saturday 30 March. The Junior events consisted of legs held over a distance of 1 mile 241 yards whilst the Senior events were held over legs of 2 miles 104 yards.

The first gold medal came in the U13 boys event with Hastings AC coming 1st in a new course record time of 19 mins 5 secs. Alex Ambridge clocked 6-07, Adam Nichol 6-39 and David Cooper 6-09. Alex Ambridge recorded first equal fastest leg whilst David Cooper had the 3rd fastest leg
The other gold medal came in the U15 boys race where Hastings AC crossed the line 1st in 17-34, again a new course record. Gavin Bettley recorded 5-45, Simon Baker 6-01 and Stephen Jules 5-48. Gavin recorded the fastest leg whilst Stephen recorded the 2nd fastest leg.
The silver medal came in the Senior Men's Race where Hastings AC had their best result for a long time coming 2nd in 63-24. Mark Barham recorded 10-14, Lee Emmanuel 10-28, Nick Lambert 10-54, Mark Vidler 10-54, Emile Tambeh 10-46 (following on from his bronze medal in the Sussex Cross Country League) and Daniel Wicks a fine last leg in 10-08.
Other Hastings AC results were as follows
The Boys U15 Boys B team were 11th in 21-42, Lee Jules recorded 6-18,Callum Brady 7-46 and Sam Grain 6-38
The Senior Women's Team was 14th in 49-54. Emily Loughman recorded 13-51, Emma Churchill 19-24 and Jeannie Sanderson 16-39. The Veteran Women over 40 team was 11th in 56-59. Barbara Headley clocked 21-00, Tina Brady 19-08 and Patience Cooper 16-51.
The Veteran Men over 50 team were a fine 5th in 40-01. Cass Balch ran 14-02, Reg Wild 13-42 and there was a storming last leg from Pete Standen (who is over 60) in 12-17.
The senior Men's B Team was 12th in 77-30. Dale Martin clocked 11-43, Jason Johnston 13-04, Ben Corrigan 13-07,Mark Cooper 14-09, John Hammond 12-32, and Jeremy Wainwright 12-55.
Sophie Fitzwarren, Abby, and Lucy Baker achieved a fourth place in the Under 13 Girls age group.
Rebecca Bicknell Clocked 8-40 in the U15 Girls race and Harriet Loughman recorded 7-40 in the U13 Girls Race. Hastings AC did not have a completed team.
